POSTED AT 12:46 AM i need to write an immersion entry before the stuff that happened slips my head. Thursday.
I talk to Karlo and I finally decide that I'm going. I psyched myself up, and sure na, no more backing out.
Friday.
So since up until thursday night I was all set to back out, I dint have anything prepared, which meant rush rush preparation... 10:30 i went shoppersville with Karlo, Gen and Stacy and we bought canned goods, water, toothbrushes, pail, and all the other stuff we'd need. Stacy went ahead, then Gen and I dropped Karlo off in school, then had lunch at Rodic's. We went back to the dorm, and then we went off to SM North because I needed cheap glasses, since there's no way I'm wearing contacts at such an unsanitary place. We had to wait an hour for the optical shop to fix my extremely cheap glasses (think: 900 pesos), so Gen and I walked around. That felt good since I haven't been in a mall (save for Eastwood, I guess) for a long time, so I was like "LET's GO THERE!!!!" "OOOOH LOOKIE!!!". I was like a kid at a carnival or something. Anyway, Sanndra called and said we'd attend the AJMA GA together, so I rushed back to the optical shop and left SM North to go back to school. I arrived in Ateneo at like 4:30 in the afternoon, in time for the GA that got cancelled. BOOO OAS.
SOOO, I went home and packed for the immersion, then waited for Stacy. Then we went to Gen's dorm, then to Ministop to meet the rest of our groupmates. Here's the annoying part! The skies were clear the ENTIRE DAY, up until the point when we were leaving got Ministop. Bitch weather!!!! At around 6:30 we were all at Ministop and set to go. We walked to that spot under the Flyover where the jeepneys for Marikina usually stop. Just our luck, the rain was pouring extremely hard and there were no jeepneys in sight. Gen and Mike tried running after cabs, but none of them were willing to drive all the way to San Mateo. AND here's the thing - Karlo went ahead, so he was waiting for us at the church. EXAGGG embarassing! Think: I ask him to go with us, cause my mom won't let me go without him, and then he was there, and I wasn't. boooo. We waited for about 3ish hourse, maybe more. Then finally, we decided to come get my car - I psyched myself up for it, remember? So I was sooo set to go that I was actually willing to drive to San Mateo despite the fact that it was 9:30 in the evening, it was raining like hell, and we had no idea how we were gonna get there. After a while, I gave up, and we all decided to just crash at Kristian's place for the night and leave early Saturday morning. I bought 100 pesos worth of Pancit Canton which we ate at Gen's place, then Mike and I bought San Mig Strong Ice and drank that, along with the half bottle of rhum which I had stored in my closet, which we also brought with us. Mike and I talked until 2 in the morning, and that conversation made me realize what a nice guy he was. (awww, aylabyoo mike!!! muwazshs!) The conversation was interrupted, though, by some weirdo neighbor who complained about our noise. Oh well, there will be other times. So I slept at 2. Everyone woke up at 4, since we promised Mang Levy (the community leader of our area) that we would be there by 7. The rest of them took showers, while I slept some more - I would rather stink than get into a car accident for being too sleepy to drive. We had breakfast at McDo (we had to eat there since the drivethru was still close) then went to San Mateo.
Saturday I drove til Marikina Sports Something, then we dint know which roads to take nymore, so we waited for a jeepney, then followed it all the way to tadaaaaaaa San Mateo. But we passed Riverside before we got to San Mateo, and we saw Mang Levy at this sarisari store. We told him I'd go park my car at the church then we'd take a trike back to Riverside. He said he'd wait for us... While driving to the church, we passed this huge hump, and SUMAYAD YUNG KOTSE KO! shit. That got me worried. And that also made me realize that my car was frikkin overloaded - think: 6 people, plus looooaaads of canned goods that we brought for our foster families. UGH. sorry car!!! ANYWAYY, there, we arrived at Mang Levy's house shortly after I parked. His wife served us breakfast before they send us off to our respective foster families. Here's the kewl part! Our foster families took pity on us, thinking we'd be too uncomfortable at their place - they borrowed this empty house and allowed us to live there. The "empty house" had a tv and an electric fan, plus they borrowed beds for us, so we were reeeally comfortable. Once we got settled in, the kids began to arrive. Now, Gen, Karlo and I were expecting an 11 year old girl, and a 17 year old boy. But it turns out, they were expecting us to tutor ALL THE KIDS IN THE AREA!!! So roughly 30ish kids turned up!!!! Since I had 0 preference, I ended up with the kids 6 below - the ones who weren't in school yet, and can i just say, FRUSTRATION!!! ugh. They dint know the basic shapes, the basic colors, the alphabet, or anything!!! So we ended up drawing and coloring instead. There were 2 kids who stood out, Alysa and Camme. They were both soooo cute and soooo kulit! They were so close, yet they fought a lot, and they always quarelled for my attention - Camme draws me a flower, so I give her a pat on the back, Alysa sees this then grabs a paper and a crayon and goes "Ate, kaya ko din gumawa ng bulaklak". It was annoying but cute. So the morning passed like that - with the kids handing me drawings then looking at me expectantly, hoping for a positive reaction. I dint recognize most, if not all, of the drawings, but what the hell. Haha. Exceptionally memorable was when I drew Camme a house (simple triangle roof with the square "walls" Gen TRIED to teach the kids how to read, while Mike tried to teach the kids some Math. Karlo took the 5th and 6th graders and "tutored" them according to what they had on their notes. Stacy took the 4th graders.
Finally, lunch time came and we sent the kids home to eat with their families, since the food we brought wouldn't have been enough for everyone. We had rice, corned beef, and vienna sausage. Our foster parents, Mang Rudy and Aling Josi, refused to eat with us., saying they've eaten already. After lunch, they told us to take a nap/rest before playing with the kids again. While we were "resting" we overheard them talking about how they had no viand and stuff like that, and we felt kinda guilty. But we DID offer them food, and they refused. It would look bad if we force them naman, dba? ANYWAYYY, Amy, Kristian and I slept while Gen, Karlo, Stacy and Mike played with the kids some more. Mike taught them the "Banana" (the ORSEM dance) and some other dance thingy, I forgot what, and the kids seemed to enjoy it a lot.
By the time I woke up, the kids were restless from all the lessons. When I got up, two kids wrapped their arms around my waist and just kind of hung on. So I carried one of them, which turned out to be a huuuge mistake - cause then EVERYONE wanted to be carried!!!!
It was cute, actually - they formed this line and waited their turn, and I lifted them one by one. Yes, I was a carnival ride. Wahoo. Talk about upper body workout. They did it to Mike, too, so Mike had to lift them as well. haha. hahaha.
Ayown. I craved a cigarette so I asked Karlo to accompany me to the store sa kanto so I could smoke away from the kids. Then while we were there we decided to walk to the church and check on my car. When we got back, all the kids were outside, so were Gen and Mike. I saw Errol (one of the kids) carrying a basketball and I told him to pass it to me. So for a while we were playing catch, until the other kids noticed and we all just played "basketball" without the hoop. haha. fun fun! Then this really small kid, Gerald, grabbed my hand and said "Ate, lakad lakad tayo!" and then Alysa and Camme (yung two makulit kids earlier) grabbed my other hand, then another kid, and another kid, so I was holding about 3 kids on each hand, and we started walking around - to the basketball court, around the streets - Karlo with me, of course, and he had his hands filled with kids as well. We went back to the house when it was starting to get dark, then we had to get water from the pump and carry it to the bathroom so we could take a shower! Once we had enough water, Gen and I TOOK A BATH TOGETHER, in our underwear, of course. hahaha Swerte ko, at mej kay Gen na din, na I couldn't really see a thing, hahahaha. Gen, though, was not as lucky - nakakakita siya eh, eh wala namang lesbo samin, so mej icky yung thought na naliligo kami ng sabay. Kaso the banyo was scary eh., aha. After Gen and I took a bath, si Karlo naman, then we all ate dinner, then brushed our teeth ng sabay, then sina Mike, Stacy, Amy and Kristian arrived, since they were sleeping there din, and we all played Pusoy til 12 midnight, and then greeted Gen cause it was her birthday (actually they played pusoy, I was asleep on Karlo's lap! tankyooo bestfriend! aylabyooo talaga!!!! muwazshss!! but i woke up to greet Gen ah!!) at around 1 ish, natulog na kami,
Sunday
then we all woke up at 7 so we could eat breakfast and uhh do stuff... then we attended the 10:30 mass then were off to Katipunan. We were at my dorm at around 12:30-1ish. We ordered Pizza from Pizza Hut and yellowcab. Karlo came din, so did allan, Gen's kuya and we played Putangina.. at around 3, everyone left na. I drove stacy and karlo home, then umuwi na din ako and i slept til 8 pm.
Owkey, that's it, end of immersion! haha
some details I wasn't able to include: I borrowed Thea (Stacy's sister) 's cellphone for the immersion, since no way am I bringing my O2 there. (My groupmates wouldn't allow me to, anyway) Karlo went there sabay with his blockmates, kaya siya nauna. Mang Rudy has one bad eye, kinda like Ula in fifty first dates. He's from Leyte, and we spoke Waray. He called me kabayan. haha Aling Josi is from Bacolod. I spoke to her in Ilonggo, but i know very little so hanggang "bal-an mo magahambal sang ilonggo" lang ako. howell. Lyn, their daughter, wouldn't talk at first, but sort of warmed up to us after a while. She had friends, Charmine and Rachelle. Charmine gave us bead rings which she made. I'm still wearing the ring now. She also had us sign her "slumbook". Cute noh? Rachelle naman, 4 silang mag sisters. Super nice niya, and she took care of her sibs. I have a pic of them sa multiply. Aling Josi was not a labandera pala, she was a mananahi. howell. they can still use the laundry soap we brought, i hope. They have this really fat/pregnant cat who slept next to kristians feet. Mike is reallly sweet..... andd..... He snores when he sleeps! haha. Sabi nung kids, boyfriend ko daw si Karlo. nyahahahha. Boyfriend daw o! wahahahaha. I sooo will NOT forget Gerald, Errol, Camme, Alysa, Lyn, Charmine, Rachelle, Raquelle, Kenken, Angelo, and the rest of the kids. The squatter's area isn't that bad. It's amusing how they're all so happy despite their poverty, and how many who seem to have everything can't seem to find happiness. We ate a whole lot of fishballs. haha. Yung isang Ale said "natuwa talaga sa inyo yung mga bata. Hindi madalas lumalabas ang ganyan karaming bata..." Mang Levy: "Pabrika ng bata yan dyan eh!" Gerald: "Ate, pakarga!" "Kuya Karlo, picturan moko! yung pogi ako ha!" "Ayoko tumabi kay kuya Kristian, mabaho siya eh!" (Kristian : "NAOFFEND AKO DUN!!" Errol : "Ate, ako na magbabalik nyan!" (di: WAG NA!! kami na diyan!) "Hindi ate, ako na! tinuruan nyo naman ako eh!!" (altogether now! AWWWWW)
There are so many details pa, pero pagod na ako magtype.
one thing's for certain! that was reaaally memorable. I learned a lot, and i changed my mind about a lot of things. I have to go back there. I miss the kids already.
heartwarming. VERY heartwarming. and i envy the children's innocense. I wish I could be as happy with such simple things - a smile, a hug, the fact that you acknowledge their existence, sobrang kuntento na sila. a look of approval, okay na sila dun. wala na yan ngayon eh. wahh. okay, enough,.

POSTED AT 09:43 PM The stars are always there, peaking through the clouds of the night sky. Sometimes you won't see them, then you continue to stare, and one by one they'll show. Like little fireflies in the darkness, sometimes hidden behind the leaves, after a little while they begin to come out.
Friend,
I can feel you slipping through my fingers. We're beginning to grow apart, and sometimes I fear that a day will come when I will no longer have my place in your heart; the day when I'd lose you completely. Much as I'd like to, I can't hold on to you forever. I realize now that in order to let you grow, I'd have to learn how to losen my grip on you, and in so doing, I myself would grow as well. But I know I'd always love you, with the same sort of love we've struggled to define; with the same sort of love we've established between ourselves. (The sort of love that trancends romance and shit like that...) Although at times I fear that we'd grow too far apart to still be part of each other's lives, I continue to hope that despite whatever differences (and there will be a lot) that will come between us, our friendship would continue, and the love and the bond that exists between us would not deteriorate. In you I found a true friend, and I will keep my promise of keeping you for the rest of my life, despite how far apart our worlds may drift. After all, we'll always have the stars and the full moon. Right?
Right.

, then started drawing the basic shapes. I drew her a circle and she said "BILOG!". Then I drew a square, and she dint recognize it, so I was like "SQUARE TOH" then I drew a triangle, then she went "BUBONG!!!" and I was like "HUH?!?!" and then she pointed to the house I drew earlier, then I understood. I remembered the beginning of "the little prince", where he was trying to draw an elephant swallowed by the boa constrictor, but everyone said it was a hat. BASTA, CUTE!
